Summary
Solar-driven triple-electrode PFC is a new clean energy process. It can simultaneously accomplish the photogeneration of electricityphotodegradation of organic pollutants by unlimited solar energy. H2O2 can be generated from water splitting in a green processobtain the high energy density similar to H2. The PFCs that comprise triple-electrode were designedconstructed for H2O2 productionfuel cell, respectively with treatment of organic wastewater. Proceeding in the way, a portable triple-photoelectrode PFC device was assembled to generation electricity with additional functions of providing safer drinking water. The novel fuel cell can also be engineering scaled up to provide electricity for a familycommunity.
Scientific Breakthrough
The triple-electrode fuel cell compartment was integrated with the treatments of organic pollutants while generating electricity simultaneously. The solar-driven H2O2 fuel cell may give a net potential gain of 1.09 V theoretically. About 80 of organic pollutants can be photodegraded in the PFC compartment with a photocurrent of 700 uA. The new triple-photoelectrode device for electricity generationsynergizing with the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater for water recyclingreuse, removal of emerging contaminants for drinking water.
Industrial Applicability
The triple-photoelectrode photoelectrocatalytic FC (PFC) compartment comprises NiP/g-C3N4/BiOIdual-photoelectrode (photoanode: NiP/g-C3N4/BiOI photocathode: 5MoS2/CuBi2O4) can yield a photocurrent of 1300 A. The theoretical electromotive force for a H2O2 fuel cell is 1.09 V that is comparable to the theoretical open-circuit voltage of a H2 fuel cell (1.23 V). The novel device can degrade organic pollutantsgenerate electricity simultaneously. This simple, easy, low-cost generator providing clean water would have a promising applicationhigh business competitiveness.
