Summary
Conventional pathology requires days for diagnosis, while frozen-section analysis suffers from freezing artifacts and tissue loss. We developed Rapid Fresh Pathology (RFP), integrating H&E whole-mount staining with the PATHOscope PS100 for real-time imaging. The platform images fresh tissues without freezing or sectioning while maintaining high resolution. RFP has been validated across more than 1,500 surgical specimens and 500 biopsy specimens, achieving diagnostic accuracies of 95–100%.
Scientific Breakthrough
Current pathology remains limited by freezing artifacts, tissue loss, and prolonged diagnostic time. To overcome these limitations, we developed Rapid Fresh Pathology (RFP) integrating H&E whole-mount staining with the PATHOscope PS100.

RFP images fresh tissues without freezing or sectioning, generating high-resolution centimeter-scale pathology images within minutes. Clinically, RFP achieved diagnostic accuracies of 95–100% across multiple organs' specimens.
Industrial Applicability
Rapid Fresh Pathology (RFP) enables rapid intraoperative diagnosis by generating high-resolution digital pathology images from fresh tissues without freezing or physical sectioning. The platform significantly reduces diagnostic time while preserving biopsy tissues for downstream molecular analysis. RFP is particularly valuable for lung cancer surgery, small biopsies, and precision medicine applications, with strong potential for widespread clinical deployment and future smart surgical workflows.
