Summary
(1) Novel nickel-sulfur energy-storage material has a layer of conductive nickel wrapping the insulating sulfur to improve the electron transfer, the cycle stability,the electrochemical reaction. 

(2) Novel nickel-sulfur energy-storage material simultaneously attains a superior high amount of sulfur (60-95 wt10-14 mg cm-2) in a lean-electrolyte conduction (7 µL mg-1)high energy density (13–28 mW∙h cm-2) for a long cycle life of 200 cycles at C/20-C/2 rates.
Scientific Breakthrough
Novel Ni/S energy-storage material pioneers the metal-sulfur composite materials in the commercial development of lithium-sulfur batteries. The Ni/S material possesses a high sulfur content of 60-95 wt for high-loading sulfur cathode (10-14 mg cm-2) in a lean-electrolyte cell with a low electrolyte-to-sulfur ratio of just 7 µL mg-1. The Ni/S energy-storage material achieves high energy density of 13–28 mW∙h cm-2excellent rate performance (C/20-C/2) for a long cyclability of 200 cycles.
