Technical Name On-site cancer diagnosis with miniature mass spectrometry
Project Operator National Taiwan University
Project Host 徐丞志
Summary
A rapid, on-site, cost-effective cancer diagnosis alternative that can be easily operated by any personnel was developed by combining miniature mass spectrometry with paper spray ionization. Through this method, a diagnosis can be provided within 10 minutes at a ~90 accuracy to assist with routine workloadsintraoperative decision-making, without affecting standard operating procedures in clinical institutions. Our technology can also be utilized for research on cancer biomarker discovery.
Scientific Breakthrough
Miniature mass spectrometry coupled with artificial intelligence paves another path for mass spectrometry in cancer diagnosis through:1. Integration of untargeted metabolomicsmachine learning algorithms, thereby providing an accurate, objective second opinion for cancer diagnosis2. Utilization of miniature mass spectrometer to screen for biomarkers capable of predicting cancer3. Development of a rapid, cost-effectiveeasy to operate diagnosis alternative usable by any personnel.
Industrial Applicability
Our platform can be employed in clinical settings to resolve current challenges in cancer diagnosis as:1.A reference for making therapeutic decisions can be provided rapidly on site2.High diagnostic accuracylow overall cost makes it a cost-effective diagnosis alternative3.integeration into current clinical workflow is straightforward due to its simplicity in operationsample collection4. database is expanded upon every sample analysis, enabling cancer biomarker discovery
