Technical Description A freeze-dried artificial blood dietexplored the practical application of an artificial feeder for the mass rearing of Aedes mosquitoesbiting midge. Scientific Breakthrough Successful colonies of the biting midgesAedes mosquitoes were establishedmaintained in the laboratory by feeding blood with an artificial blood-feeding apparatus. The survival rate, fecundity, pupation,pupal emergence rates of females fed on artificial blood meals were not significantly different from the animal-fed ones. The artificial blood diet was convenienteasy to prepare.
