Summary
Surfactantsenvironmental hormones were considered as the emerging contaminants. Our series of patents which is involved P. nitroreducens TX1 for the efficient removal of ethoxylated surfactants. The removal was proved in microcosms of both watersoil systems. We also keep investigating how bacteria degrading/resisting to surfactants. Our team had isolated other strains which degrading different pollutants,is possible to expand our techniques to the multi-contaminated environments.
Scientific Breakthrough
Our bacterial strain P. nitroreducens TX1 is an efficient surfactant degrader, the mechanisms have been conducted by important journal paperspatent protection. We also demonstrate of how bacteria can degrade organic pollutants by using Bio-Fenton reaction. The lipopolysaccharides structures are currently investigated to be involved in bacteria surviving under surfactant stress. The knowledgetechniques may help to improve the bioremediation models.
Industrial Applicability
Our techniques exhibited huge potential in the treatment of the wastes produced from various industrial activities. Addtionally, it also can be applied to the bioremediation of polluted waste environments. Based on our knowledge of the mechanisms of bacterial resistance to surfactants, we are anticipating to extend the research results for the improvement of medical disinfection methods, even for the relationship in cosmetics/skin microbiota, food emulsifiers/gut microbiota.
