Summary
This technique produced the carbon-based MoS2 composite piezo-catalytic filter. MoS2 with excellent piezoelectricity was grown on the carbon cloth fibers through the hydrothermal method. The composite filter can effectively decompose a large amount of organic pollutants over 2.5 liters through solely water flow. The piezocatalytic filter remained intact after the strong water flow for several hours, demonstrating its reusability. Moreover, the filter generates no secondary pollutants after the catalytic process, making it promising for industrial wastewater treatment. Based on embedding the piezoelectric MoS2 into fiber membranes, other applications such as piezoelectric disease preventionbiomedical use can be achieved.
Scientific Breakthrough
This technique fabricated the piezo-catalytic carbon-based MoS2 composite filter by the hydrothermal method, which enabled industrial mass production. A large amount of 2.5-liter organic dyes can be fully degraded within 5 cycles by applying water flow, a ubiquitous energy source in nature,the energy consumption during the sewage treatment process can be effectively reduced. Through piezo-catalysis, no light irradiation is needed, which significantly enhances the practicality of the filter. The composite filter is reusable, easy to recycle,generates no secondary pollutants during the piezo-catalysis. Furthermore, the composite filter can be encapsulated in hydrogelsfilms for biocompatiblemedical applications.
Industrial Applicability
This technique uses a facile hydrothermal method, which is beneficial to mass production in the industry, to produce the piezoelectric carbon-based MoS2 composite filter. A large amount of organic pollutants can be degraded without light irradiation under simple water scouring, which is cost-effectiveenergy conservative. Meanwhile, the composite filter is easy to recycle, reusable,produces no secondary pollutants. The idea of this piezoelectric material composite substrate can be combined with various cladding materials to expand its application in functional fabrics, biomedical industries,other fields,it has great potentialvalue in industrial applications.
