Summary
Durable slippery colloidal coatings are created through the infiltration of particulate films with bilayer lubricant. The colloidal dispersion was prepared with low surface energy materials, sprayed on the substrate forming a particulate thin film. Then, the viscous surfactant was thermally driven to the bottomserve as adhesive primer. After lubricant infusion as the top protective layer, the slippery coatings are obtainedexhibit excellent surface-protective performance, including anticorrosion, antifouling, self-healing, anti-icing,self-cleaning properties.
Scientific Breakthrough
To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to create bilayer lubricant-infused colloid-based surface systems as protective coatings. The coatings can be deposited onto arbitrarily shaped metallic surfacesapplied over a large area owing to the easy process of spray coating. Also, the coating offers considerable surface protection through anti-corrosion, antifouling, self-healing, anti-icing,self-cleaning properties. We believe that this approach has promise for solving various traditional industrial problems, could be upscaled for use in numerous practical applications.
Industrial Applicability
Durable slippery anticorrosionantifouling protective coatings were fabricated by infiltrating colloidal particulate films with multilayer lubricants. With stable, transparency, anti-icingself-cleaning properties, the slippery colloidal particulate film is promising to solve various traditional industrial problems, including corrosion damage of metals, deposition of biofouling, ruininvalidation of coatings, ice accretion, as well as to be upscaled for use in numerous practical applications, such as biomedical fluid handling, anti-icing, self-cleaning windows, optical devices.
