Technical Name aBio: Active Bi-Olfactory Display Using Subwoofers for Virtual Reality
Project Operator National Taiwan University
Project Host 洪一平
Summary
Including olfactory cues in virtual reality would enhance user immersion in the virtual environment, precise control of smell would facilitate a more realistic experience for users. We present aBio, an active biolfactory provides users with a natural olfactory experience in free air by colliding two vortex rings launched from dual speakerbased vortex generators.
Scientific Breakthrough
"In recent years, experience technology is developing rapidly, but there are still many obstacle in the development of olfactory experience system. Currently developed olfactory systems can still be improved, fan type systems are less accurate in digital control of odor, while wearable olfactory devices need to overcome the problem of gas molecule residueweight in the delivery container.

aBio is a scent projection system applied in virtual reality. This system uses an air emitting device to generate a vortex flow containing the scentintegrates virtual reality positioning technology to project the scent in front of the experiencer. Without any wearable device, the odor will be projected at a specific point."
Industrial Applicability
In terms of future development, our team is developing an all-round scent projection system that integrates multiple scenting devices, hoping to allow the experiencer to receive multiple scents according to the change of content during the experience. In terms of application, the team is also committed to integrating the olfactory device into the multi-sensory relaxation experience. In the future, the team hopes to apply it to other immersive multi-sensory experiencesimmersive projection fields, using olfactory cues to deepen the experiencer's perception of the situation.
