This technology “Fast 3D foot scanner” focuses on developing an efficient 3D scanning device for foot shape measurement within 3~4 seconds of scan and less than half minute of data processing. In addition, we developed feature detection algorithms for automatically generating relevant 3D sizes, feature matching and comparison, and assistance of shoes manufacturing. We use four slit lasers, four industrial cameras, two linear motors to continuing capture shapes of feet. The most important improvement is the system calibration. We utilized a specific box to carried out all calibration parameters within one procedure. The concept we emphasized is “make 3D scanner as simple as photography”. What users need to do is only clicking one button, either by their PCs or cell phones, we device will execute all necessary procedures to accomplish the task. What we emphasize is “3D data generator”. We believe massive data production will be another story for new-generation applications.

In this proposal, we utilized four off-the-shelf standard VGA cameras, four slit lasers and one linear stage to build a 3D scanning device. Based on the intensity distribution, our team developed a subpixel algorithm which is able to enhance the image quality and improve the resolution around 10x to 50x. To simplify the calibration procedure, we also developed the 3D homography algorithm which integrates all four calibration parameters at one time. Therefore, only one calibration step is enough for the system.  we also convey several foot features that are defined by individual shoe maker company. Since all frameworks are self designed, we are capable to develop any candidate solution for foot as well as shoes industry field.

This technology is capable to generate massive 3D foot data for assistance of shoes design and manufacturing for shoes companies. Scanning as well as acquiring 3D data is as simple as taking photos. For retailer, it is worth for not only collecting massive quantity of foot shape data, but assisting for analysis, shoes fashion design, foot health consultant.
