Technical Name Heroin dependence associated neurodegeneration target identification and drug development
Project Operator National Health Research Institutes
Project Host 劉玉麗
Summary
Genomic research along with the patient plasma biomarker discovery may speed up the target identification. The role of the target may be revealed from the pathway-based association analyses. Following the target and its genetic information, we could estimate the proportions of patients who might be beneficial to this treatment and help for the patient selection to reduce the placebo responses.
Scientific Breakthrough
Genomic research could be applied in precision medicine to assist individualized treatment. It could also be used in combination of clinical study. After obtaining the plasma level of a biomarker, the genomic analyses could be used to identify potential target. If the target is an enzyme, the enzymatic and cellular verification can be applied for screen nature product as treatment candidate.
Industrial Applicability
Current treatment for heroin dependence is focusing at replacement therapy. This therapy may not meet the need for the brain neurodegenerative diseases associated within heroin dependent patients. The developing drug might be able to meet this need to treat heroin dependent associated neurodegenerative disease. It might also be applied in dementia in the future.
