Summary
The portable "Interleukin-6 rapid diagnostic system" is developed by leveraging the principles of Lateral Flow Immunoassaya spectrum-based optical reader. This system permits low-cost, rapid, immediate serum IL-6 detection. With minimal sample requirements (about 100 μL), the device produces real-time results (within 30 minutes), permitting continuous monitoring of patients clinical conditions without waiting for days. The precision of the systems detection limit is improved by combined with a spectrum-based optical reader. This portable rapid diagnostic assay is easy to store, permitting the device to be applied in different circumstances.
Scientific Breakthrough
The "Interleukin-6 Rapid Diagnostic System" leverages the principle of lateral flow immunoassay combined spectrum-based optical reader. The serum IL-6 is captured by modified antibodies attached to the test strips. The test lines will turn red if the samples IL-6 concentration exceeds the detection threshold. When the red line was scanned with white light, the colloidal gold absorbed the spectrum between 430600 nmreflected the remaining light. We then established the calibration curvethe formula, the quantitative IL-6 value was calculated by converting the spectrums reflectionabsorption value. With a high correlation with ELISA (Rho=0.962), the detection limit of the Interleukin-6 rapid diagnostic system is 0.076 n
Industrial Applicability
We have cooperated with many medical centers to conduct various clinical research to investigate the potential clinical applications of the interleukin-6 rapid diagnostic system. The system can distinguish severe cases in children with influenza, COVID-19 infection-related respiratory failure/ encephalitis, severe enterovirus infection, severe elderly pneumonia,vaccine-related severe complications. The Interleukin-6 rapid diagnostic system can provide a real-timeconvenient detection method for consecutive monitoring of severe cases rather than checking IL-6 at a single point. Therefore, the device can improve the quality of medical care, treatment, patient outcomes.
