Summary
The present invention indicates a bacteriocin Peocin-producing probiotic Paenibacillus ehimensis, which could be used as a potential probiotic in aquaculture to improve growth performance, feed utilizationimmunity against diseases. Peocin produced from P. ehimensis was identified as a DNA starvation/stationary phase protection protein, which exhibited antimicrobial activity against aquatic, food spoilageclinical pathogenswas characterized as a novel antimicrobial agent with potential applications in diverse industries.
Scientific Breakthrough
The present study is the first to demonstrate Paenibacillus ehimensis could be used as a potential probiotic in aquaculture to improve growth performance, feed utilizationimmunity against diseases. The present study also the first to characterize the identity of bacterion Peocin from P. ehimensis. Results showed that Peocin exhibited the antimicrobial activity against diverse pathogensprovided an efficient strategy for production of bioactive peocin. The results suggested Peocin can as a novel antimicrobial agent with potential applications in diverse industries.
Industrial Applicability
The present invention indicates a bacteriocin-producing probiotic Paenibocillus ehimensis, which can be developed as microbial agentfunctional feed additive to enhance fish growthimmune responses in aquaculture, reduce environmental impact derived from the abuse of antibiotics. The bacteriocin Peocin, which is an antimicrobial protein produced from probiotic P. ehimensis can be developed as novel antimicrobial agentused in food, animals culture, biomedicalclinical application.
