Technical Description 1.Technology based on noise-like pulsed (NLP) fiber laser and supercontinuum generation (multiple patents).
2.Tunable and can generate watt level average power with bandwidths of 10-100 nm. The output energy of the NLP laser can be scaled to tens of microjoules by multi-stage amplification.
3.Excited by NLPs, a 10-m length of Ge-doped single-mode fiber can generate a supercontinuum with a flat spectrum and FWHM of 1030–1470 nm.
4.Exciting a length of photonic crystal fiber, a supercontinuum covering the visible and near infrared band (440-2200nm) can be generated.
5.Using this source for optical coherence tomography (OCT), sectional resolution is as high as 2.3 micron.
6.Multi-frame averaged OCT images obtained with this source exhibit much better image quality than competitive sources.
7.Potential applications in white-light interferometry, lidar, LIBS(Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy), fiber sensing, optical network testing, machining and material processing.
Scientific Breakthrough Fiber-laser-generated medium and high-energy noise-like pulses (NLPs) that enable super broadband white light generation across the visible and near IR band (440-2200 nm) through supercontinuum (SC) generation in optical fibers. NLP-excited SC source has enabled optical coherence tomography with superior imaging quality. Multiple patents were granted.
