Summary
This technology integrates the patented system to culture collect, and concentrate the algae and CO2 sequestration simultaneously. This technology can also solve the problems of utility (water and energy) consumption, land requirement, and pollution control during the algae cultivation. A continuous operation for 15-week was studied by this design. An cost evaluation model was also developed for the potential investor.
Scientific Breakthrough
Algae has a long history for commercial products due to its high nutrition, economic value and carbon dioxide fixation efficiency of different algae species. However, energy, water, pollution, and the land requirement are the key factors for the application and these problems should be resolved
To solve these problems, our research team develop a new photo-bio-reactor to enhance the efficiency for algae cultivation. The main technical features are as follows:
1.The reactor can be scaled-up easily by the modulated design (TW I601816);
2.In-situ algae collection during the cultivation (TW I444471) or each cycle (TW M455342);
3.Some other patented modules can also connect to the reactor to enhance the efficiency of cultivation;
4.Auxiliary light sources can also be used for cultivation. Thus, the system can also be setup indoor or outdoor;
5.A continuous operation was studies for 15 weeks. Algae was collected periodically. The nutrient with some water were added to the system to keep the system continuous operation. Most of the cultivation media can be kept in the reactor for the water-saving purpose;
6.Amplification of the cultivation can be easily done by switching valves of the reactor;
7.Cost and economic assessment model was also developed for the size of 200L to 256tons.
