Technical Name Low-temperature electrochemical graphitization process
Project Operator National Tsing Hua University
Project Host 闕郁倫
Summary
The invention belongs to the field of low temperature electrochemical graphitization, and it is improved by the FFC-Cambridge Process. Therefore, the process is capable of scaling up and relatively inexpensive. In comparison to the traditional graphite manufacturing process, our invention can be graphitized at a low temperature of ~850 oC and shorter process time (6~12 hour). This strategy can successfully convert agricultural wastes carbon blacks into high-value graphite.
Scientific Breakthrough
By utilizing the high-density molten salt system, the electrochemical reduced graphite will be naturally suspended on the molten salt bed due to the density difference without filtration. In addition to facilitating the separation of the product, this invention has the potential of large-scale and continuous production.
Industrial Applicability
The applications of graphitized carbon black through this process may aim at lithium ion batteries-related materials (conductive additives, negative electrodes), energy storage (carbon-zinc batteries, fuel cells), industrial applications (refractory materials, steelmaking), general household applications (lubricants, colloidal graphite), military applications, etc.
