Summary
Geopolymer technology is established for stabilization/reutilization BOF slag, contain a large amount of free silicon which can respond in BOF slag with free lime and, prevent the expansion of BOF slag to form a stable compound. On account of the outstanding geopolymer characteristics high-quality products can be created such as passive radiative cooling coating, grass bricks, geopolymer concrete, etc.
Scientific Breakthrough
Comparison of global commercialized BOF Slag pre-treatment methods, such as steam treatment (Japan); roller method, hot closed pot, water quenching (China). However, after the autoclave test, all of the samples were still disintegration in tradition cement system. Only geopolymer technology can effectively stabilize the expansion behaviour of BOF slags, and controlled expansion ratio less than 0.5%.
Industrial Applicability
BOF slag-based geopolymer materials can be used in construction, environmental protection, ceramic materials, etc. and will reduce 65-80% CO2 emission It can be made into cement-like products, geopolymer concrete, grass bricks, blocks, New Jersey guardrails, etc. Besides, because the BOF slag powder has a high far-infrared emission rate, it can be made into a passive radiative cooling coating for building insulation.
