Technical Name Agricultural waste-derived multiporous carbon for high performance supercapacitor
Project Operator National Cheng Kung University
Project Host 林弘萍
Summary
The agricultural waste-water caltrops shell was carbonized into biochar, which can be applied to adsorbent materials (commercialized). The miltiporous carbon can be produced from biochar through a simple solvent-free process. The multiporous carbon has been assembled into a commercial supercapacitor with high capacity and capacitance retention. This technology can successfully establish a recycling economy for agricultural waste to high-end energy storage materials.
Scientific Breakthrough
The mass-produced multiporous carbon which composed of micropore and mesopore was developed from agricultural waste__Water Caltrops Shell by our group. For commerical carbon which only exhabits microporous strcture, and the pores are too small for ion diffuse. For supercapacitor application, the multiporous carbon has superior first charge and discharge performance and high capacity retention.
Industrial Applicability
The technology converts the agricultural waste-Water Caltrops Shell into biochar, and then activates them into multiporous carbon with high surface area and high pore volume. For supercapacitors appliction, it shows good rate performance and high capacity retention. In our technology, agricultural waste can be converted into a high performance supercapacitor, forming a good circular economy system.
