TIE 2026 Opens: FUTEX Drives Industrial Transformation through Research Innovation
2026 -09 -17
The 2026 Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) opened on September 17. Jointly organized by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Academia Sinica, and the Ministries of Education, Health and Welfare, and Sports, the Future Tech Pavilion (FUTEX) features 173 innovations developed by more than 800 researchers. Over 50 one-on-one matchmaking sessions have been booked, while more than 400 companies visited on the opening day.
At the opening ceremony, NSTC Minister Cheng-Wen Wu emphasized that Taiwan must build on its manufacturing strengths by integrating chip design, system architecture, and AI models to create solutions for real-world needs. Taiwan's science and technology budget will reach a record NT$182.3 billion in 2027, excluding defense—an increase of approximately 9.47% from 2026.
Under the theme "Turning Taiwan's Research Strength into a Driving Force for Industrial Transformation” FUTEX presents four major highlights: national research institutions, industry-academia collaboration, Future Tech Award winners, and government-funded research.
Key exhibits include images captured by Taiwan's FORMOSAT-8A satellite; AI-powered disaster warning and assessment systems; advanced semiconductor, medical imaging, and battery research; and industry-academia solutions spanning smart healthcare, low-carbon technologies, AI-assisted design, and smart food services.
This year's 84 Future Tech Award-winning projects cover AI, semiconductors, optical communications, green energy, biotechnology, medical devices, and humanities-based innovation. Government-supported exhibits also showcase applications in sports analytics, advanced manufacturing, quantum computing, precision health, and AI-enabled care.
To accelerate commercialization, FUTEX provides customized technology tours and one-on-one meetings between companies, investors, and research teams. Over the three-day event, 27 technologies will also be presented across AI and semiconductors, biotechnology and medical devices, advanced materials and net-zero solutions, and multimodal large language models.
FUTEX brings industry needs and research innovation together—turning promising technologies into new opportunities for collaboration and growth.
