Multimodal AI Enters Real-World Applications: Technology Forum Set for September 18

From smart transportation and multilingual education to healthcare, multimodal AI is rapidly moving into real-world settings. The Chip-Based Industrial Innovation Program—Multimodal Large Language Model Technology Forum will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on September 18 at the Future Tech Pavilion of Taiwan Innotech Expo 2026.

The forum will bring together experts from Academia Sinica, ELAN Microelectronics, National University of Tainan, and Chung Yuan Christian University to showcase how AI integrates images, speech, behavioral data, and environmental information across diverse applications.

Edge AI for Safer Roads

ELAN Microelectronics will present an Edge AI traffic detection system that uses roadside AI SoC devices to identify vehicle types, speeds, traffic flow, and pedestrian movement in real time. It can detect vehicles within 50 meters of an intersection, calculate braking distances, assess red-light violation risks, and activate lighting and warning systems to enhance road safety.

A Multilingual AI Learning Companion

National University of Tainan will introduce an interactive AI robot supporting Mandarin, Taiwanese, English, and Japanese. By combining local learning materials, large language models, speech recognition, and generative AI, the system enables real-time conversations and voice-driven image generation across online platforms and physical robots.

Smarter Home Care Through Multimodal Data

Academia Sinica and Chung Yuan Christian University will share a home-care system that integrates household signals—including sound, posture, and movement—to better understand daily activities and care needs. The technology explores new possibilities for intelligent care, anomaly detection, and timely response.

Connecting AI Models with Real-World Systems

Beyond models and algorithms, the forum will highlight integration with sensors, edge computing, robotics, and real-world environments. Participants will gain insights into multimodal data integration, intelligent behavior analysis, Edge AI, multilingual interaction, and generative AI, while exploring opportunities for technology adoption and cross-sector collaboration.
